Typical Awards For Mesothelioma Compensation

The amount of compensation awarded for mesothelioma is based on age and your particular set of circumstances, but is likely to be between £50,000 and £350,000.

Under certain circumstances it may not be possible to claim compensation for mesothelioma. These include the following:

  • You simply have no idea how or when you may have been in contact with asbestos
  • The companies where exposure to asbestos occurred ceased trading many years ago
  • You have only been in contact with asbestos while serving in the Armed Forces, usually the Royal Navy

The Crown is exempt from prosecution prior to 1987

Even if you are sure that you fall in to one of the categories above, it is still worth a phone call to exhaust all other possibilities. Mesothelioma can be triggered by a small amount of asbestos so may have been ingested when a building was being refurbished, breathed in when washing the clothes of a spouse who worked with asbestos or from a variety of other sources.

Mesothelioma compensation from the government

If you cannot claim compensation from insurance companies, then the government will provide compensation for mesothelioma under the Pneumoconiosis etc. (Worker’s Compensation) Act of 1979.

The amounts listed are sourced from the Department of Work and Pensions and came in to force on 1st October 2008.

The left hand table is for people who currently have mesothelioma.
- The right hand table is for people claiming for a relative who has recently passed away.
